The merger between Freedom Fibre Limited and InfraBridge-backed VX Fiber, two leading alternative networks, has been successfully completed after receiving regulatory approval.

Under the leadership of Freedom Fibre CEO, Neil McArthur, and his management team, the newly combined entity will operate under the name Freedom Fibre. Notably, the network size has expanded to 300,000, up from the previously reported figure of 285,000 as of December.

“This strategic merger leverages the strengths of both Freedom Fibre and VX UK to create a larger, stronger, and more diverse business backed by two significant investors with ambitions for growth,” said McArthur. "We are delighted to be joining forces with the VX team and are hugely excited about the future potential of the newly combined business.”

VX UK is a telecommunications company that primarily operates within the vicinity of Stoke-on-Trent, providing essential connectivity services to businesses and residents in the area. While its main focus lies in Stoke-on-Trent, VX UK also possesses fiber assets in other strategic locations such as Bristol and Colchester. This diversified infrastructure allows VX UK to extend its reach beyond its core area and cater to a wider audience across different regions.

On the other hand, Freedom Fibre, a subsidiary of VX UK, emerged onto the scene in 2020 as a dedicated provider of wholesale-only services on its extensive network. With a commitment to facilitating high-speed internet access, Freedom Fibre has forged a long-term wholesale agreement with TalkTalk—a prominent broadband provider in the UK. This partnership not only strengthens Freedom Fibre's market position but also underscores its dedication to delivering reliable connectivity solutions to customers across the country.

Furthermore, Freedom Fibre's endeavors have been recognized through its successful bid for the Building Digital UK (BDUK) gigabit tender earlier this year. This significant achievement highlights the company's capability to contribute to the government's initiatives aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure nationwide.

Building on this momentum, Freedom Fibre is poised to expand its offerings beyond residential services, venturing into the realm of Business-to-Business (B2B) products starting in 2023. This strategic move positions Freedom Fibre as a comprehensive provider of connectivity solutions, catering not only to individual consumers but also to businesses seeking robust and scalable networking options.

Freedom Fibre expressed gratitude for the support of PMP Strategy and other advisors throughout the process of completing this significant merger.
