Deutsche Telekom, Google Cloud Partner to Enhance AI-Driven RAN Optimization

Google Cloud Deutsche Telekom

Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud have joined forces to enhance radio access network (RAN) operations with a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered network management solution.

The companies have developed a network AI agent using Google Cloud’s Gemini 2.0 in Vertex AI. The AI agent is designed to analyze network performance, detect issues, and implement corrective actions, ultimately improving reliability, reducing costs, and enhancing user experience.

As telecom networks grow more complex, traditional automation methods are struggling to keep up. This new approach leverages large language models (LLMs) and advanced AI reasoning to create intelligent agents capable of independent learning and decision-making.

Deutsche Telekom has already tested and validated the AI-driven RAN Guardian agent, which mimics human-like collaboration by identifying network anomalies and executing self-healing actions.

Enhancing Network Management

Beyond Gemini 2.0, RAN Guardian also integrates Cloud Run, BigQuery, and Firestore to enhance network management capabilities. The AI agent continuously monitors key network parameters in real time, allowing it to detect anomalies and ensure optimal performance. It also employs AI-driven issue classification to identify and prioritize network degradations by analyzing data from multiple sources.

Additionally, RAN Guardian enables proactive network optimization by recommending or autonomously executing corrective actions, such as resource reallocation and configuration adjustments, to maintain seamless connectivity and efficiency.

“Traditional network management approaches are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of 5G and beyond. We are pioneering AI agents for networks, working with key partners like Google Cloud to unlock a new level of intelligence and automation in RAN operations as a step towards autonomous, self-healing networks,” said Abdu Mudesir, Group CTO, Deutsche Telekom.
